Page zoom is in force before the page loads. Below 100 % NeatKiosk gives a page more room, so at 50 % a site lays itself out as if the screen were twice as wide and often switches to its tablet layout; that is how Safari's page zoom works and it is intended. In 1.2.4 the extra room arrived a moment after the page had started: a site's own code had already measured the screen as a phone and set up its menus the phone way, then the layout changed under it, and on some sites the dropdown menus no longer opened. The zoom now applies before the page loads, so a site sees one consistent width from its first line. At 100 % nothing changes. Reported three days after 1.2.4 shipped by the same user who asked for the zoom; thank you.

Page zoom below 100 % fills the screen. In 1.2.3 a page zoom of, say, 80 % shrank the page inside the same screen area, so a page built to fill the screen filled 80 % of it and left a blank strip on the right. Safari's page zoom does the opposite: it gives the page more room to lay itself out and scales the result to fit. NeatKiosk now does the same. At 50 % the page is laid out twice as wide, at 150 % two thirds as wide, and in every case it fills the screen edge to edge, through rotation too. Changing the zoom on a running kiosk still applies without reloading the page. Reported two days after 1.2.3 shipped, with screenshots that made it obvious; thank you.

Page zoom. A page built for a desktop screen is unreadable at its own size on an iPhone, and the only knob until now was pinch-to-zoom, which a kiosk usually has switched off. The Lockdown step now has a Page zoom setting, from 50 % to 200 %, that scales every page the kiosk loads — the same page zoom Safari offers, fixed so visitors cannot change it. For fleets it is the new MDM key pageZoomPercent; see the deployment guide. Changing it on a running kiosk applies in place without reloading the page. Requested by a user running a desktop web app on iPhones; thank you.

Screen mirroring shows the kiosk again. Mirroring an iPhone or iPad to a TV while NeatKiosk was open showed the kiosk's first page on the TV and then nothing more, whatever you did on the device. iOS offers an app a second screen when mirroring starts, and NeatKiosk was accepting it and drawing its own separate copy of the kiosk there instead of letting iOS mirror the device. It now declines that screen, so the TV shows exactly what the device shows. Reported with a very thorough set of tests by a user in October; thank you.

A way out of the app lock. When an MDM lets NeatKiosk lock the device itself (Autonomous Single App Mode), only the app can end that session, and 1.2.0 never did: an operator who entered the PIN reached Settings and had nothing to press. Settings now shows Unlock device while the app lock is on; tap it and you can leave with the Home gesture, and the kiosk locks itself again the next time it is opened. Reset kiosk ends the lock too. If the lock is Guided Access or MDM Single App Mode instead, the screen says so and points at the triple-click or the MDM. Reported by a school district running Mosyle; thank you.

Managed configuration applies live. Push a changed App Configuration from your MDM and a running kiosk adopts it within seconds — new URL, allow list, idle timing, attract page, PIN — with no reinstall and no reset. A device seeded from your MDM now treats the MDM as the source of truth: Settings on the device says "Managed by your MDM" and offers no on-device editing, and Reset kiosk clears web data and reloads the pushed configuration. A push that does not parse never disturbs a working kiosk, and a kiosk configured by hand on the device is never overwritten by a push. One thing to know when you update: iPads that were set up from MDM by 1.1.1 or earlier did not record where their configuration came from, so they behave as hand-configured until you Reset kiosk on them once (or reinstall the app); from then on they follow every push. Requested by two fleets in September; thank you.

Fixed: allowing more than one site. The allowlist and denylist boxes now take one host per line the way the hint always promised. Return starts a new line, a list pasted from your notes keeps its lines, and hosts separated by commas, spaces or semicolons all work. Before this fix the boxes were single-line, so a pasted list collapsed into one rule that matched nothing and a second site could not be allowed at all. Reported by a customer at an event; thank you. Tip: a bare host such as example.com allows exactly that host — write *.example.com to include www.example.com and every other subdomain. Your home site is always allowed and never needs to be in the list.

New: an attract screen. When nobody has touched the kiosk for a while, NeatKiosk can cover the screen with a page you choose — a slideshow, a looping video, an announcement — and return to the kiosk the moment anyone touches it. You point it at a URL, so you can build whatever you like in HTML and change it without touching the device. It works with or without the idle reset, sound is off unless you allow it, and it costs nothing, like everything else in NeatKiosk.

New: scheduled page refresh. NeatKiosk can reload your page on a schedule — every 15 minutes, every hour, whatever suits — so a menu board, dashboard or timetable stays current without anyone touching the device. It is not the idle reset: cookies and logins are kept, so a page behind a sign-in stays signed in, and a refresh waits rather than interrupting someone who is using the kiosk.

A dropped connection no longer hides your page. If the network goes down while your page is on screen, NeatKiosk now keeps showing it and displays a small "Offline — retrying" badge in the corner instead of covering everything with an error. A stale menu is far more use to someone standing at the kiosk than an apology, and the kiosk reconnects on its own the moment the network returns. The full error screen still appears when there is genuinely nothing to show — for example if the first page never loaded.

Links that open in a new tab now work. NeatKiosk locks the device to a single window with no tabs, and links set to open in a new tab were being discarded instead of opened — so tapping them did nothing at all, with no message to explain why. If your home page links out to other sites, those links were affected even when the sites were on your allow list. They now open in the same window, and they are still checked against your allow and deny lists exactly like every other link. Nothing about your configuration needs to change.

A bug-fix release for kiosks that run unattended, and for anyone who changes their settings after the first setup.

• Settings apply the moment you save them. Editing your kiosk used to have no effect until the app was closed and reopened. Changing the website is the clearest case: the kiosk carried on showing the old site, and after the next idle reset it could end up stuck there entirely. The idle reset time, “Warn before reset”, your allow and deny lists, the lockdown switches and “Keep screen awake” were all affected the same way.
• Your screen comes back in the morning. If you use the night blackout schedule without “Force full brightness”, the screen went dark at the start of the blackout and stayed dark, and the only way to get it back was to raise the brightness by hand on the device. NeatKiosk now remembers how bright your screen was, puts it back when the blackout window ends, and returns to full brightness if the app restarted overnight.
• Nothing carries over between visitors. Idle reset now clears browsing history along with cookies and site data, so nobody can reach the previous visitor's pages with the Back button. “Reset kiosk” clears the previous site's cookies and storage too, instead of leaving them on the device for the next kiosk you set up.
• The app no longer closes when a page asks for the microphone. NeatKiosk now refuses microphone requests outright — a kiosk stands unattended in public, and a live microphone is not something it should hand out silently. Camera requests, for scanning QR codes, still work.
• Allow and deny rules with capital letters in the path now match. Previously a rule like example.com/Admin quietly matched nothing at all.
• New MDM key: settingsPIN. A device set up from MDM never runs the setup wizard, so until now it had no Settings PIN and the hidden admin exit opened straight into Settings. Push settingsPIN and the PIN is hashed on arrival. See the deployment guide.
• Out-of-range blackout times are ignored instead of silently switching the schedule off.

Full-screen website lock, URL allow and deny lists, idle auto-reset that clears cookies and site data between visitors, PIN-protected settings with a hidden admin exit, brightness control and a nightly blackout schedule, Guided Access and MDM Single App Mode support, and Managed App Configuration for fleets. Free, with no accounts, no backend, no analytics and no tracking.
